I have been slowly working my way through Corinne McKay’s book, How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator
Honestly, for someone who is just getting all the information together to start the whole process of becoming a freelance translator, I have to say that this book is an invaluable resource. If you’re in my position, just starting out or hoping to get into this line of work, or if you happen to be a freelance translator who could benefit from a refresher course on all the fundamentals for success in this profession, do check this book out.
For the most part, I will end my little series of ‘articles’ relating to this book by posing questions (which will end up on the Questions page, naturally) for which I still have to find answers in my continuing quest to get this business off the ground some day in the not-too-distant-future.
In fact, after looking at the quantity and variety of questions I have to post, I will instead end my investigation of Ms. McKay’s book here and present my questions in other posts to keep things a little less cluttered.
As a last note, to sum up with the main points she seems to emphasize throughout the book, to succeed as a freelance translator one must be highly organized, plan the business out well beforehand, market oneself assertively, and employ the strict self-discipline necessary to put in the work hours required to achieve one’s projected goals.
